ABOUT US

Capo Vaticano is a majestic granite promontory, apparently one of the most ancient formations in the Mediterranean basin, and was known as a sacred destination all over Magna Graecia. Two hundred meters off the cape sits a rock called “Il Mantineo,” whose name is believed to be derived from the ancient prophetess Manto, who lived in a cave on the cape. It is believed that she is the same oracle visited by Odysseus on his along his journey. Like my father writes, “Some days you have the impression that Odysseus just sailed by”.

His feelings are shared by most. In 2004 the French tourist guide “Editions Grand Voyageurs” ranked the beaches of Capo Vaticano as one of the three most beautiful Italian beaches, among the 100 most beautiful in the world.

Because of its unique position and beauty, you can enjoy breath-taking views of the Aeolian Islands. On the last day of April and on August 13th, if the day is clear, the sun sets directly into the crater of the volcano Stromboli, located directly in front of Capo Vaticano, making it appear as if the volcano is exploding. To the left of Stromboli and the Aeolian island, you can see Sicily and the strait of Messina. Again, on clear days, Mount Etna is in full view, an active volcano that like Stromboli, periodically releases puffs of smoke.

You can access the coves below the cliff by a private stairway carved into the granite. A series of small white sandy beaches that roll into the crystalline sea with its different graduations of turquoise and blue are also reachable by boat. Several other beaches are just minutes away by car or by boat. Excellent diving and fishing, sailing or wind surfing are available.

In total privacy, surrounded by vegetation, the property offers eight cottages for rent. Here you can forget the rest of the world and enjoy nature at its best. On the cape there is always a breeze and even in the hot days of summer, the climate is pleasant. All the houses have kitchens and you can take advantage of the wonderful bounty of our private organic gardens. Take a stroll through the property and pick your own vegetables, herbs, figs, pears and grapes. Make sure you taste the famous red onions from Tropea. You may purchase olive oil, wine, pickled vegetables, fruit preserves, cheeses, fresh eggs, Limoncello and Finocchietto liqueur from the local farmers. And of course do not forget to taste “l’nduja di Spilinga”, a spicy salame spread that with its faint smoky taste is unforgettable.
